INTER FAITH WEEK 15 - 21 November 2009
Inter Faith Week was proposed by the Inter Faith Network for the United Kingdom in the consultations that led to the Department for Communities and Local Government document "Face to Face and Side by Side - a Framework for partnership in our multi faith society."
As an outcome of that consultation it presents primarily an opportunity for faith communities to develop and deepen faith based relationships at every level. At national level, through the Inter Faith Network, the faith communities work in partnership with the Department for Communities and Local Government.
A dedicated website is available www.interfaithweek.org.uk
Among other things the week will seek to:
- Strengthen good inter faith relations at all levels
- Encourage local faith groups and communities to reach out to each other and build stronger bonds of understanding and cooperation
- Increase awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in England, with a particular focus on the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and wider society.
Inter Faith Week gives Christians an opportunity to deepen their faith as the best way to promote a spirit of friendship and exchange with their neighbours of other faiths.
The Week does not exclude people who do not have religious reference points but who do believe in values and attitudes that promote a healthy soceity.
Inter Faith Week needs our prayers and support so that it can be a springboard for greater mutual awareness, understandng and help in our cities and communities.
These pages will be developed to share resources and information.
