Local Ecumenism

The Darlington meeting

Ecumenical Officers -- both County Officers and Denominational Officers -- in Yorkshire and the North East meet together annually for support, encouragement and practical help. Two of the National Ecumenical Officers are also invited to this meeting and Churches Together in England's Field Officer for the North and Midlands is usually in attendance.

The six Intermediate Bodies involved in this meeting:

  • Churches Together in South Yorkshire (CTSY)
  • The Ecumenical Network in the Vale of York (ENVOY)
  • Kingston-upon-Hull and East Yorkshire Churches Together (KEY CT)
  • North East Christian Churches Together (NECCT)
  • North York Moors Churches Together
  • West Yorkshire Ecumenical Council (WYEC)

Planning for each meeting is entrusted to one person whose task it is to send reminders about the meeting, ask for agenda items, organise the practicalities, circulate an agenda, chair the meeting and find someone to take notes of it. All communications go via the County Ecumenical Officers (or the contact person for each Intermediate Body) who cascade information to their DEOs, and to the Field Officer for the North and Midlands who communicates with the National Ecumenical Officers.

The meeting is usually held at the Elm Ridge Methodist Church in Darlington, travel details on their website or downloadable below. The room is booked via the Church Secretary at the charity rate of £4 per hour (2010 rate) and the Intermediate Bodies take it in turns to pay for the room. (2008 CTSY, 2009 WYEC, 2010 NECCT, 2011 ENVOY, 2012 KEY.)

Some years the meeting date has been fixed after the annual CEOs' consultation, to which one person from each IB is invited, so that those present can put together an agenda.

The convenor of the 2012 meeting (see green box) is Neil Cockling. Please submit agenda items to him. (Geoff Phillips booked the room for 2012.)
