Evangelisation
Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ together
A key role of CTE is reflected in the Swanwick Declaration made by national leaders on behalf of the wider church:
'Our call is to witness that God is in Christ, reconciling the world to himself. It is our conviction that, as a matter of policy at all levels and in all places, our churches must now move fro co-operation to clear commitment to each other ... in common evangelism and service to the world'.
The general task of evangelism, ie sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, is carried out in many aspects of CTE work, but is focussed in the particular contribution of the Churches Co-ordinating Group for Evangelisation. This group (GfE for short) seeks to serve the wider church in the task we are all called to, 'that the world might
believe'.
GfE is a Co-ordinating Group of CTE. Information about the group can be seen at Group for Evangelisation.
GfE group members are chiefly national evangelism officers of the member churches at CTE. They come together to consider various topics of common interest and concern under certain priorities. The latest topic considered is how confident we are at sharing our Christian faith. A popular report, resources and an article which can be used on other websites can be found under Confident Discipleship.
Priorities also recently considered include evangelisation in relation to Migration, New Housing and the Virtual World. Resource papers have been produced to signpost where information, resources and networks can be found. More papers are to be added to the series which you can find at Resource Papers.
As members of GfE keep a watching brief on all aspects of evangelisation in England, GfE offers the space to meet and discuss any and all of the national / regional / local initiatives in evangelisation of common interest. Current initiatives we are considering include Back to Church Sunday, The Christian Enquiry Agency, Hope, and More than Gold to name a few. Our plan is to place information about these and other initiatives on this website, to go alongside the pages already up for Mission 21 and Equipping your Church in a Spiritual Age which GfE have sponsored.
To encourage, resource and reflect on evangelisation in England, some papers and articles have been collated on such diverse topics as the Charity Commission and evangelisation as 'public benefit'; ethical guidelines for sharing faith with Muslim friends; and Paradox in the Gospel. More articles will be added to this list of articles.
CTE / GfE does not try and do the work of the member churches, but exists to help the member churches work together. Here you will find links to where detailed web resurces are provided by each denomination and agency represented in our group.
On behalf of the wider network of churches and agencies involved in sharing the good news of Jesus, GfE offers a news headline service to which anyone can subscribe. Short items of news and a web link can be sent direct to your computer free as email or rss feed. EvangelismUK is available on http://www.evangelismuk.typepad.com
GfE seeks to work with all of the other areas CTE covers, as we all seek to 'share the good news of Jesus Christ'.
