Movement Day UK
6/7th Oct 2017
Churches Together Seminar
Jim Currin writes:
500 delegates have already booked for a major conference called Movement Day UK (MDUK) and Churches Together in England will be contributing in several ways, including through a stream with the theme Transforming Our Communities
We are working closely with Roger Sutton, Director of the Gather network and the host of MDUK. Some CTE Presidents and staff are attending. I'll be leading a seminar with a team of contributers to which you are particularly invited. That will be on Friday 6th October under the heading, Churches Together Groups: Transforming Our Communities.
What is Movement Day?
Movement Day started as a one day conference over twenty years ago in New York. It was a means of gathering together representatives from new unity movements involved in mission as transformation. The concept of Movement Day has now spread around the world and a group of UK church leaders through the Gather network of unity movements is hosting the first national Movement Day in the UK ... over 2 days!
Movement Day UK
The Friday 6th October emphasis will be more on churches working together in response to Jesus prayer in John 17; 20,21, while the Saturday focus will be on Christians seeing their ministry together in business, education, the arts, media, local authorities etc. As I see it, both aspects see transforming local communities as a response to praying for the kingdom 'on earth as it is in heaven'.
There are several CTE Presidents involved in Movement Day in a variety of ways. Revd Canon Billy Kennedy is involved in some of the planning as a leader of one of the Gather
groups, while His Grace Bishop Angaelos is a main key note speaker.
CTE co-badge the conference
CTE has agreed to be one of the many organisations working in partnership to co-badge the conference.
The CTE Seminar
This will include contributions from several people including:
Callan Slipper the new national Ecumenical Officer for the CofE re what 'ecumenical' means in terms of mission and transformation
David Cornick, General Secretary of CTE, will report on the current Theos review and its recommendations re CTE and mission.
Jerry Marshall from Germinate and the Churches Rural Group, will give a rural perspective and talk about mission as enterprise
Danny Stupple, Chair of Churches Together in Eastleigh will be illustrating 'Transforming Our Community' with video and testimony.
The speakers will form a panel for questions.
A personal invitation
As the CTE member of staff for Evangelisation, Mission and Media, I am involved in the planning of Movement Day UK and want to invite all members of Churches Together(CT) groups to be delegates 6th and 7th October at Westminster Methodist Central Hall (WCH) in London.
Of course, the ideal is to come as a group from your CT group and attend as much as you can for the whole 2 days. If attending as a group you will be much more able to reflect on Transforming Our Community in your own locality, both in terms of church unity and the wider 'spheres of influence' including education and the arts, business and local government. Although coming as a group has an extra benefit, of course individuals are more than welcome too. Dont be worried about space, WCH can take another 500 delegates!
The whole programme and how to register
The whole programme for MDUK and the many streams as well as main speakers, are all explained after an introductory video from Roger Sutton on the dedicated website http://movementday.uk/. This is the place to find all the information and register as a group or individual.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how Churches Together groups can engage in mission as transformation, do email Jim Currin. It would be great to see you at Movement Day UK in October.
