Join the conversation on the challenges facing Christian youth work
The UK Christian Youth Work Consortium (UK CYWC) and the Professional Association of Lecturers in Youth and Community Work (PALYCW) are jointly organising a second Birmingham Conversation, which will take place on Friday 15th November 2019.
The event will be in The Apartment, which is on the floor below the venue for the National Youth Ministry Weekend (which commences on Friday 15th and runs through to Sunday 17th November).
Details of the event are available below…
The Birmingham Conversation
Enabling those involved in leading and directing Christian youth work/ministry in churches and Christian agencies across the UK, and in theological education/training for this workforce, to meet together and continue to work through the ways in which we can face the challenges of this important ministry:
Time: 10.30am arrivals and refreshments. Event runs from 11am to 3.30pm
Cost: £5.00 per person (lunch included)
Venue: The Apartment, Resorts World, Birmingham, B40 1PU
In November 2018 we agreed a five-point plan:
We will explore the way in which we can be a voice to the churches on behalf of Christian youth work/ministry training agencies
We will seek to be a voice to churches and Christian agencies for the importance of quality work with young people and trained practitioners
We will explore the development of a research community and the dissemination of research
We will work with key stakeholders to develop a set of competencies which articulate the skills, knowledge and attitude required of those engaged in Christian youth work/ministry
We will explore the joint development of a training package for placements, line-manager and practice tutors
At our gathering in November 2019 we will continue to work on these aims, hear from Ali Campbell and his research on the terms and conditions of salaried workers, and explore together how we can raise the profile and effectiveness of Christian youth work/ministry across the UK.
