elderly"Holiday at Home on the Phone" available this August

Throughout August, a new series of reflections on the Daily Hope phone line will give thousands of older people who are still staying at home the opportunity to use their imaginations to take them off to the sea or the countryside...

In normal times, many churches across the country offer ‘Holiday at Home’ type sessions in person for older people who are not able to go on holiday. These happen a range of formats, which for some might include a day trip to the seaside.
Faith in Later Life, alongside Connections at Holy Trinity, Claygate, have been working together to prepare a series of seven reflections for the free Daily Hope telephone service. The new series launched on Saturday 1 August 2020.

More than 200,000 calls have now been made to the free telephone service, totalling nearly 2.5 million minutes. Many of those ringing in are repeat callers, accessing a range of services.

There is a different theme each day of the week, with each session containing a poem, reflection, bible verse and a prayer of thanksgiving.

There will be the sounds of seagulls, birdsong, and maybe even an ice cream van!
Don't forget to ring 0800 804 8044 to try these light-hearted reflections, which the team hope will bring some relief for those still having to remain at home. The other wonderful options on the Daily Hope line are also still available to enjoy.
A taster of what to expect from Holiday at Home on the Phone is available on the Church of England SoundCloud page.
Churches are encouraged to help spread the word of this new material in their communities.
Holiday at Home on the phone will be on option 3 on Daily Hope, which is available 24 hours, 7 days a week free of charge to all UK landlines and mobiles.
