join us onlineWebinar - Heeding the Spirit: New Horizons in Receptive Ecumenism

Online Study Day
Thursday 17 June 2021
12noon-4pm (UK time), online

Receptive ecumenism is essentially very simple. Instead of asking what other Church traditions need to learn from us, we ask what our tradition needs to learn from them – what we can receive which is of God.

Looking towards the Fifth International Conference on Receptive Ecumenism, to be held in Sigtuna, Sweden in 2022, The Centre for Catholic Studies at Durham University - in partnership with the Christian Council of Sweden, University College Stockholm, and the Sigtuna Foundation - are pleased to present this online event on 17 June.

With short, highly accessible talks and time for discussion and sharing, the event will serve as as both a pre-conference' for the 2022 gathering in Sweden, and a standalone introductory event for anyone interested in the idea of transforming churches through learning from each other.

The full programme is available here, and some paper titles are below for an at-a-glance flavour of the day. With speakers from Sweden, the UK, India, Australia, and the US, it promises to be a varied and interesting session.

  • Prof Paul Murray: Receptive Ecumenism’s Distinctive Contribution
  • Dr Antonia Pizzey: Deepening the Spiritual in the Ecumenical
  • Dr Gregory Ryan: The Reception of Receptive Ecumenism
  • Rev Prof Mathew Chandrankunnel: Wider Ecumenism: A Pilgrimage towards Cosmic Christ Consciousness
  • Dr Sara Gehlin: Receptive Ecumenism and Cosmopolitan Conflict Resolution
  • Rev Dr Gabrielle Thomas: Qualitative Research and Receptive Ecumenism: Contributions from Fieldwork
  • Archimandrite Cyril Hovorun: Byzantine Ecumenism
