Replica John's Gospel
In World War I soldiers were given copies of John's Gospel to fit in their battedress top pocket. It provided spiritual comfort and a reminder of the Gospel message. At the request of Chaplains, an addition was made to the Gospel in the form of a decision card to provide re-assurance. The Gospel also included well known hymns and a short message from Lord Roberts.
In the 100th Anniversary of the First World War, Scripure Gift Mission as it was then called, now SGM Lifewords, have produced a replica of the Gospel given away. The replica is complete with authentic font, paper and brass staple, and is the same size and shape of the original. New pictures have been commissioned and some of the original hymns included in this edition to commemorate the original. The intention is still the same, that it be given away.
On this page you will find details about the replica John's Gospel and how it can be obtained for general distribution at events marking the 100th Anniversary of World War I. Many groups of Churches Together will be involved in remembering World War I - this website will provide resources to help in that task. The website of SGM Lifewords includes video links as well as order forms: http://www.sgmlifewords.com/uk/ww1.
