Learning to be Missionary Disciples Together 2
Following on from the successful online conference in November 2020 we are pleased to announce a follow up, in person, conference at The Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick from 16th-18th November (Tuesday-Thursday) 2021.
Building on the connections and relationships formed virtually we hope to gather together to wrestle with the questions arising from the pandemic about the quality of disciple making and the challenges confronting us in the unfolding post-covid era. We are pleased to announce that Dr Sanjee Perera – The Archbishops' Adviser on Minority Ethnic Anglican Concerns will share on the challenges of making Missionary Disciples in the post covid era on the first afternoon of our gathering. Revd Dr Canon Carla Grosch-Miller, a gifted liturgist and URC minister from the Tragedy and congregations movement, will be leading an opening act of worship on the first evening helping us to lament and connect.
We are thrilled Dr Harvey Kwiyani - Senior Lecturer in African Christianity at Liverpool Hope University will share from his lastest publication on Decolinising mission and discipleship- lessons from the Majority World. In the afternoon and following morning we have more focused breakout groups around 4 pertinent areas of discipleship.
Discipleship, Race and Justice (Host – Harvey Kwiyani and Ben Aldous, CTE)
Discipleship and the Climate catastrophe (Host – Paul Goodliff, CTE)
Discipleship and the rise of SNRs (Spiritual but not religious) (Host – Trey Hall, Methodist Church)
Discipleship and Formation (Host – Francis Brienen, United Reformed Church)
We invite conference participants to offer short informal papers (Ted Talk style 12 mins max) to share how your denomination or organisation is wrestling with a particular area from the above list – this can be a broadly interpreted. We also invite informal papers outside of these topics which you may wish to share.
On the final morning we are thrilled that Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Great Britain under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, will be joining us and commissioning in working more closely together as we leave.
We will be led in worship each morning by John Procktor from Catalyst Youth Trust, an ecumenical schools and youth work agency in Shropshire.
When: 3.00 pm on Tuesday 16 November until 2.00 pm on Thursday 18 November 2021
